HH the Emir’s Visit to Gaza Signals Start of Reconstruction – HE the Premier

Doha, October 23 (QNA) – The visit of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani today to the Gaza Strip marked the true start of the reconstruction of Gaza Strip, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said.
Regarding the message that Qatar wants to send out through HH the Emir’s visit to the Gaza Strip, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, who was talking to Al-Jazeera channel this evening said: “I think that the message is clear.  It reflects the crisis of the people  who have been under siege for years,  It also reflects the crisis of the people  who have been suffering as a result of the conflict between Fatah and Hamas, all of this were indicated by HH the Emir in his speech today.”
“The time has come for the Arabs to help the people of Palestine and the people of the besieged Gaza who have been besieged for more than five years. There were circumstances known to everyone including the way in which the siege is enforced and the inter-Palestinian conflict, but today things have changed after what happened in Palestinian neighbor, in Tunisia and Yemen. What is needed now is to draw the Arabs’ attention to the fact that the beleaguered Palestinian people need comprehensive reconstruction after this long siege which some of our Arab brothers unfortunately contributed to it .”
HE Prime Minister and Foreign Minister added the visit of His Highness the Emir was a clear message that Qatar, which called for convening the Gaza summit which unfortunately was boycotted by some for certain reasons, and also for several meetings to help the reconstruction of Gaza, even if these intentions did not materialize, through the visit of HH the Emir is taking immediate action by giving more than $400 million. This contribution exceeded the amount the announced by Qatar Conference on Gaza and other conferences on Palestine. And I think this visit signals the true start of reconstruction.”
On whether the visit of HH the Emir will motivate other Arab leaders to visit Gaza, His Excellency said “I think that most of the reasons are no longer valid, and the Arab people will not accept this blockade. and I think that things will change in a positive way for the benefit of the Palestinian people and for the benefit any oppressed Arab people. Those who can help their brothers in Palestine or in any other Arab country should do that, because that will be the ideal solution to ensure Arab unity and develop a new Arab example that we can follow.”
Speaking about tomorrow’s talks between HH the Emir and Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy in Cairo, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani pointed to the Egyptian role in HH the Emir’s  visit and the beginning of actual work in Gaza.
“This is not strange to the people of Egypt or the historic leadership of Egypt, but we know about the previous period and what happened during it. I believe that today’s Egypt has a clear path and track,” and has a clear position on Arab issues.
HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim added that HH the Emir and President Morsy will discuss bilateral ties, the Palestinian issue in addition to the situation in Syria, which, he said, has a running waterfall of blood and its crisis remains unresolved. “As you know, there is a proposal from HH the Emir to stop this bloodbath by sending Arab troops to stop fighting between the factions.”
HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed his hope that a quick solution for the crisis would be found, adding: “We support the UN-Arab envoy, but we have not seen a solution to this issue so far except for the recent proposal for a truce during Eid Al-Adha.”
Asked about efforts on other levels, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said he believes other efforts should be within the Arab League and then internationally through the UN Security Council. “I think things will not continue under these conditions for long. Although I’m very hopeful about UN-Arab envoy Lakhdar Brahimi’s long experience, but I’m not sure the other side has the intention to help stop this killing.” (END)
