HH the Amir Inaugurates Umm Al Houl Power Plant

HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani patronized the inauguration ceremony of Umm Al Houl Power Plant during the ceremony held by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation KAHRAMAA in Um Al Houl area yesterday morning.

The ceremony was attended by HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, and a number of ministers and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State.

The capacity of the plant is 136 million gallons of water per day and 520 megawatts of electricity at an estimated cost of about QR11 billion. The station will add quality and strong support to achieve water and electrical security. It will provide 25% of Qatar’s electricity needs and 30% of domestic demand. Water and the plant uses modern technologies that preserve the environment and ensure water production and electricity generation with the highest standards and quality. KAHRAMAA owns 60% of the Umm Al Houl plant, while Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Foundation each own 5% Mitsubishi TIBCO owns the remaining, which is 30%.
