Bred and owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, BIG FIVE (GB) (Frankel x Louvain) is shaping up into a top-class staying prospect. He stretched his unbeaten record to five wins in as many starts when taking the feature race of the day at Chantilly, the Prix Right Royal (Listed) for 4-year-olds and older over 3,000 metres in very impressive fashion on Monday, 5 April. This was his second listed victory and first Stakes success.
Ridden by Olivier Peslier, the 4-year-old gelding jumped well to travel in mid-division. In the first turn, he took a pull to his right, losing ground to sit second last. Once in the straight, he showed an excellent turn of foot down the centre of the track to bypass the entire field with apparently very little effort. He won by 5½ lengths, easing down to pass the post, in front of ALKUIN (Maxios x Almerita), who battled to take second by a head from RICHEMONT (Anodin x Harmonie).
“He has won like a good horse”, said Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard, “I am delighted as BIG FIVE confirms that he has quality. He is an interesting stayer as he can really accelerate even when running over long distances. He will run in the Prix de Barbeville (Gr3) on 2nd May at ParisLongchamp.”
BIG FIVE is by the incomparable and record-breaking FRANKEL. He is out of LOUVIAN, making him a brother to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s champion filly FLOTILLA, winner of the Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and French Classic Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches.
