The General Tax Authority GTA) has extended the period for submitting the tax return for the tax year 2020 for an additional two months, according to the accounting period approved by the Authority.
The Authority attributed the extension to the continuation of the exceptional and compelling circumstances that the country is going through in light of the repercussions of facing the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the Authority’s endeavor to enhance the principle of tax compliance, reduce the burden on taxpayers, and contribute to achieving economic stability for companies in the country. GTA indicated that this comes in response to the requests received by the auditors’ offices, to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the work of these offices and facilitate the task of auditing and applying accounting standards in light of these difficult circumstances.
The decision comes in line with HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s directives, to provide the necessary services to citizens and residents, foremost of which is to provide safety and protection from Covid-19 and to ensure the continuation of their healthy life, and mitigate the effects of financial implications on them.
