GOIC and UNIDO Conclude Workshop on Montreal Convention

Doha, October 09 (QNA) – The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC)  concluded today, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a workshop it started last week in Doha under the title: application of the Montreal Convention and industrial development  with the  participation of representatives from different GCC member states.
A statement issued by the GOIC today said the workshop, held within the framework of the role played by the organization in the development of the industrial sector in the Gulf region, included a field visit to Qatar Insulation Factory (QIF) in the industrial city of  Mesaieed during which participants were briefed on the amendments made by the factory to comply with the ozone protection terms in the use of chemicals or other substances.
During the workshop UNIDO participants reviewed means of cooperation with the factory to implement the amendments in line with the Montreal Protocol.
The workshop targeted professionals and those working in the areas of analysis of industrial statistics, macroeconomic indicators and  environmental and health safety measures as well as specialists working in the analyzing of  data and statistics. It also sought to provide adequate support for specialists who deal directly with  analytical accounts.
The workshop  provided the  opportunity for participants  to identify the role of the Montreal Protocol in achieving environmental sustainability and industrial development in the GCC states as the programme included a presentation on the background of the Montreal Protocol, the state of the ozone layer  and the  multilateral financial fund as a financial mechanism for this Protocol, in addition to the role off UNIDO as its implementing agency. The programme also reviewed UNIDO protocol portfolio in the GCC states, capacity building, technology transfer and other issues.(QNA)
