GCC Waqf week kicks off in Oman

MUSCAT, June 13 (KUNA) — The first GCC Waqf (Islamic endowment) week kicked off in the Omani capital Monday under the auspices of Information Ministry’s Undersecretary Ali Al-Jabri.
The event, billed as “your waqf is your wealth” aims at raising cultural awareness on Islamic endowments in public, Dr. Salem Al-Kharousi, Director-General of Awqaf and Treasury House in Awqaf and Religious Affairs Ministry, said in a press statement.
It also targets various age groups of Gulf citizens, encouraging them on organizing charities and launching philanthropic actions that would, eventually, lead to achieving economic and social development, Al-Kharousi added.
The GCC Waqf Week is a result of a series of successful meetings of GCC Awqaf Ministers, he noted, adding that organizing such an event is part of interacting with the Gulf society.
The event will include a number of segments, including an introductory seminar on Islamic endowments, cultural contests, and symposiums, said the Omani senior official. (end) ahr.ma
