Riyadh – Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani met today with the UN Secretary-General’s envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who is on a tour of the region.

The meeting discussed developments in the security and humanitarian situation in Yemen and the efforts exerted by the UN Secretary-General’s envoy to complete the political consultations between the Yemeni parties to reach a political solution to the crisis there, in addition to relief efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Yemen.

During the meeting, Al Zayani stressed GCC countries’ support for efforts spared by Ould Cheikh Ahmed and stressed the importance of the political solution to the Yemeni crisis and the restoration of security, stability and peace throughout the country. He called for doubling efforts to deliver relief aid and the necessary needs of the Yemeni people to alleviate their suffering.

The meeting was attended by GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Negotiations Dr Abdulaziz Hamad Aluwaisheg and GCC Secretary General’s special envoy to Yemen Medkel bin Dhakil Al Hothali. (QNA)
