Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Mohammad Al Budaiwi said that the countries of the GCC are a key partner of the United Nations and play a major role in promoting regional and global security and peace.

This came during his meeting Tuesday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Gilles Michaud, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 78) in New York.

The GCC Secretary-General said that during the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the United Nations related to safety and security issues, in addition to a number of topics and issues of common interest.

He also hailed the efforts made by safety and security affairs to ensure the safety and security of employees and the security of the United Nations buildings and offices around the world, so that the UN system can perform its tasks, activities and programs in a safe manner.

For his part, Michaud expressed his pleasure with the level of security and safety that the GCC countries provide to UN headquarters and missions in their territories. (QNA)
