France to launch EUR 1 bln fund to support Tunisia – FM

TUNIS, March 18 (KUNA) — Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui announced Friday a decision by France to launch a one billion euro fund to shore up the Tunisian economy.
“The funding will be used in economic reforms and the development projects in the internal areas over the coming five years,” Jhinaoui said at a joint press conference with the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault.
“The two sides reached agreement on rescheduling EUR 60 million of Tunisia’s debts and boosting cooperation in the economic and security fields,” he added.
On his part, Ayrault reaffirmed his country’s desire to become the leading supporter to Tunisia which facing mounting economic and security challenges. The French minister who concludes a two-day visit to Tunisia held talks with Jhinaoui, President Beji Caid Essebsi, Prime Minister Habib Essid and Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives Mohamed Ennaceur.
