France maintains enhanced alert for terror attacks

PARIS, March 19 (KUNA) — France has enhanced the security controls over borders as a precaution after the arrest in Brussels of Salah Abdeslam, a prime suspect in the November attacks in Paris.
Additional 5,000 security personnel have been sent to border checkpoints based on intelligence shared with the Interpol, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told the French TV on Saturday.
The enhanced security measures helped survey nearly 10 million persons of who 10,000 were barred from entering France, he said, praising as flawless the Belgian police operation that led to capturing Abdeslam yesterday.
Cazeneuve added that several terror suspects were intercepted and are being interrogated.
In February the French government extended the state of emergency until May 26. (end)
