Former Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dies

Colombo, Former Sri Lankan prime minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, who had a political career spanning five decades, died after a brief illness, a family member said on Tuesday. He was 83.

Wickremanayake served as premier twice, from 2000 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2010.

He was a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party which ruled the country for 44 years since independence in 1948 from Britain.
