FNC holds final session of 2nd ordinary term

 Abu Dhabi, 25 June 2013 (WAM) – The Federal National Council (FNC) held today its 17th and final session of the 2nd ordinary term of the 15th legislative chapter, under the chairmanship of its Speaker Mohammed Ahmed Al-Murr.

In a speech he delivered at the beginning of the session, Al Murr expressed thanks and gratitude to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates for their support to the council.

During the session, attended by Economy Minister Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, the FNC members tabled seven questions to the government representatives. They ratified a draft law on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.

The members also took note of six international treaties and agreements made by the government and referred a letter from the Minister of State for FNC Affairs on the Council’s recommendations about the social security policy adopted by the Ministry of Social Affairs to the house’s health, labour and social affairs committee.

The house also reviewed two letters to the government dealing with the FNC recommendations for minimising school hours and improving work environment for women in government sector.

In his speech, the FNC Speaker said the house’s second term saw 17 sessions convened for a total of 106 hours. The 7th session was longest as it took 4 hours to discuss the draft companies law. The draft took 35 working hours to discuss and ratify.

The house’s committees held 145 meetings for a total of 414 hours and made 5 field visits. Out of 17 draft laws submitted, the house discussed and ratified 11.

The members tabled 55 questions to the ministers of which, 46 were addressed by the concerned ministers, while replies to 9 questions were made in writing.

At the end of the session, the FNC Secretary General Dr Mohamed Salem Al Mazrouei read the federal decree 67 for 2013 on ending the second ordinary term of the 15the legislative chapter.
