Five airstrikes in Syria, 18 in Iraq target IS – coalition

WASHINGTON, Jan 31 (KUNA) — US-led Coalition military forces continued to attack the so-called Islamic State (IS), conducting five airstrikes in Syria and 18 in Iraq, the Combined Joint Task Force announced on Sunday.
In Syria near Al Hasakah, two strikes struck an IS tactical unit and destroyed an IS structure and two IS fighting positions, the announcement said.
One strike destroyed an IS crane near Ar Raqqah, while two strikes struck IS tactical units near near Ayn Isa and near Mar’a, it said.
One strike destroyed an IS front-end loader near Al Qaim in Iraq, while two strikes struck an IS tactical unit and destroyed an IS mortar position, an IS fighting position and cratered an IS-used land bridge near Habbaniyah, it said.
Near Kirkuk, two strikes struck two separate IS tactical units and destroyed an IS tunnel, it said. Four strikes hit two separate IS tactical units, destroyed two IS heavy machine guns, two IS fighting positions, five IS assembly areas and an IS checkpoint near the Iraqi northern city of Mosul.
Near Ramadi, seven strikes struck three separate IS tactical units and destroyed an IS tactical vehicle, three IS fighting positions, an IS front-end loader and denied IS access to terrain, it said.
The coalition hit an IS tactical unit and destroyed an IS heavy machine gun and an IS fighting position near Sinjar, while suppressing an IS mortar position near Tal Afar, it said. (end) rm.bs
