FBI employee pleads guilty to espionage for China

WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (KUNA) — Dual US-Chinese citizen and FBI employee, Kun Shan Chun, pleaded guilty on Monday at a US court to espionage charges on behalf of the Chinese government.
“Kun Shan Chun violated our nation’s trust by exploiting his official US Government position to provide restricted and sensitive FBI information to the Chinese Government,” Assistant Attorney General Carlin was quoted as saying in a Department of Justice statement.
Chun, 46, was an electronics technician assigned to the Computerized Central Monitoring Facility of the FBI’s Technical Branch and was provided top secret clearance.
Between 2006 and 2015 Chun disclosed the identity and potential travel patterns of an FBI Special Agent, downloaded an FBI organizational chart and took photos of sensitive details regarding multiple surveillance FBI technologies.
He faces a maximum 10-year prison term. (end) sd.bs
