EU, China discuss wider cooperation in Mideast

BRUSSELS, June 10 (KUNA) — EU High Representative Federica Mogherini met on Friday Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and discussed current regional and global challenges.
“We discussed increased cooperation between the EU and China in the Middle East, which is essential for the security and stability of the world, and not only of the region,” Mogherini told reporters after the meeting.
“Our close cooperation on the Iranian nuclear deal in this area has set a positive example to do more together in this area. So we discussed the scope of our cooperation on Syria, Iraq, Libya and the Middle East Peace Process,” she noted.
On his part, Yang Jiechi told journalists that the annual high level EU-China strategic dialogue “was frank, friendly and constructive.” “Both China and the EU are committed to seeking a political solution to the hotspot issues and we have worked actively to deal with challenges such as terrorism and issue of refugees,” he added.
