The announcement came during the third day of GITEX Technology Week 2013, and will expedite the process of new products entering the U.A.E. ICT market and also improve the quality of services provided by Etisalat and du to consumers, within the current competition regulatory framework.

The TRA stressed that all products entering the market must still comply with the competition framework currently in place in the country, as the authority is going to monitor all products after release in order to protect the interests of U.A.E. consumers .

“The authority’s decision to approve the nation’s licensees to go straight to market with pre-paid mobile packages without prior regulatory approval came in line with the current competition regulatory framework and after the market shares of Etisalat and du reached 52.6% and 47.4 % respectively. The TRA will definitely keep monitoring all products and packages after their release in the market to ensure that they comply with the regulatory framework, and will interfere in case of any violation,” said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director-General.
