EPA launches campaign at Sabhan industrial area

KUWAIT, March 20 (KUNA) — The Environment Public Authority (EPA) has suddenly launched a campaign at the Sabhan industrial area to make sure that factories are committed to environment standards.
It is the fifth campaign launched by the authority against factories which violate the law, Dr. Mishaal Al-Ibrahim, head of EPA’s department of industrial environment, told reporters on Sunday during the tour that they registered some violations committed by three factories which did not abide by the law of environment.
The violations are related to engineering-related terms of factories like storage capacity, safety of workers, ventilation, dangerous wastes and liquid wastes, he added.
The violators may face heavy penalties like a three-year jail sentence and a fine from KD 5,000 to 50,000, he said, adding that they are given a grace period of 15 days to pay the fine.
He underlined the necessity of abiding by the terms and standards of the environment so as to avoid risks, indicating that the authority continues launching such campaigns to apply the law. (end) zak.amh.hm
