Dubai Customs Seizes 2kg of Prohibited Substances Hidden on Vegetable Loaded Ship

WAM DUBAI, July 7th, 2013 (WAM) — Dubai Customs, supported by its inspectors and the latest inspection techniques, have successfully managed to seize pellets of prohibited substances found inside the command cabin of a vegetable loaded wooden ship arriving at Al Hamriyah Port.

The crew, along with the seized haul and investigation report, were referred to the Anti-Narcotic Department at Dubai Police to proceed with necessary legal action.

Mr Butti Al Zafri, Director of Coastal Customs Centres at Dubai Customs, said that the successful seizure operation will be added to Dubai Customs’ history report of successfully thwarted smuggling attempts, and will also be officially recorded to the history of Dubai Customs inspectors who demonstrated efficiency, security and a high degree of progress. Dubai Customs is always keens to provide the latest training programmes to its Customs officials, he added.

Using the latest inspection equipment and highly sophisticated IT support, inspection teams at Dubai Customs are regularly trained on the techniques, methods and ways of smuggling in order to better combat the threats, and as such they receive intensive training on how to identify goods which are on the lists of prohibited and restricted goods.
