Dr. Gargash honours organisers of Combat Human Trafficking campaign

WAM DUBAI, 30th December, 2013 (WAM) — Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, has honoured participants who organised an advertising campaign to combat human trafficking at Dubai Airports. The anti-trafficking drive, which was launched in July, was a great success and helped achieve the desired objectives.

The campaign was organised by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, Dubai Police and Dubai Airports. It aimed to create awareness about human trafficking, and promoted a partnership between the public and private sectors to unify national efforts to combat human trafficking. The campaign also clarified the legal aspects, including the harsh punishments, related to this crime against humanity.

“The co-ordination between national bodies in the U.A.E. contributed significantly to the success of the campaign. The location for the campaign, Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest in the world, ensured that the campaign message reached a large number of residents and visitors to the United Arab Emirates,” said Dr. Gargash.

“The U.A.E. is committed to carrying out its responsibilities toward the international community by reducing the risk of human trafficking. Our efforts are supported by international organisations. We focus on the adoption of best international practices, and ensure their application based on five strategic pillars: prevention, prosecution, punishment, protection and promotion (of international cooperation),” added Dr. Gargash.

During the event held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dubai, Dr. Gargash honoured the Interior Ministry, General Headquarters of Dubai Police, Dubai Airports and the team of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.

The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking organised awareness campaigns at Abu Dhabi and Al Ain international airports in earlier years, aimed at raising awareness about this crime among both residents and visitors.
