Doris Leuthard Elected President of Switzerland 2017

Bern, – Switzerland Parliament on Wednesday elected the countries Cabinet Minister of Environment, Transportation, Communication and Energy to the Swiss presidency for 2017.

Leuthard (53 years), a Christian Democratic People’s Party member, is currently Switzerland’s longest-serving cabinet member.

This is her second turn as president since being named to the cabinet in 2006.

The Swiss presidency changes each year, rotating through the seven-member Federal Council, the Swiss executive, or cabinet.
