CPH FACULTY WINS BEST POSTER AWARD AT THE “3RD QATAR PATIENT SAFETY WEEK UNITED FOR PATIENT SAFETY”

CPH faculty member won the Best Poster Award at the 3rdQatar Patient Safety Week United for Patient Safety which was recently organized by the Healthcare Quality & Patient Safety Department at Qatar Ministry of Public Health.

CPH Assistant Professor Dr Shane Pawluk presented a project titled NICU Medication Errors: Describing the Cause & Nature of Medication Errors in a NICU in Qatar, in collaboration with Dr Moza Sulaiman Al Hail, Dr Wessam El Kassem, Dr Hanan Khalifa, Dr Binny Thomas and Dr Pallivalappila Abdul Rouf from the Department of Pharmacy at Hamad Medical Corporation Women’s Hospital, and Myriam Jaam and Fatima Hazi from QU.

The 3rd Qatar Patient Safety Week United for Patient Safety drew the participation of a large number of health care leaders and professionals across Qatar. It provided a platform for presentations and open discussion about patient safety within the health care system.

CPH Dean Dr Mohammad Diab said: As an academic leader, we believe in the importance of patient safety. In this view, we at the College of Pharmacy have it integrated as part of our curriculum for undergraduate students. It is the responsibility of the multidisciplinary health care team to deliver patient safety and for this reason we are working on promoting inter-professional education towards this goal. In line with events such the Qatar Patient Safety Week, the College of Pharmacy is working on building a culture of transparency towards addressing and resolving the issues related to patient safety.

Dr Shane Pawluk said: Patient safety is such an important part of health care that needs attention. Events such the Qatar Patient Safety Week allow patient safety leaders to learn together and influence change across the country. Qatar University continues to support high-quality research that continues to gain international attention.
