Cold Snap Kills 27 Children in Northern Afghanistan,

Kabul, A cold snap and heavy snowfall across northern Afghanistan’s Jawzjan province has killed 27 children, officials said on Thursday.

“The children died due to extreme cold in villages blocked by snowfall in the past two weeks,” Rahmatullah Hashar, the Darzab district governor said.

Food shortages and lack of health services in the remote areas also played a role, Hashar said.

Hafizullah Nudrat, a provincial council member from Jawzjan, confirmed the deaths.
