CEO Of DEWA Receives Irish Delegation

WAM Dubai, 10th Jan. 2014 (WAM) — Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has received a trade delegation from the Republic of Ireland, led by Daniel Cunningham, Commercial Attach? for the Embassy of Ireland, as well as representatives from six leading Irish companies operating in the water sectors.

Al Tayer welcomed the delegation and highlighted the importance of cooperation between DEWA and Irish companies, encouraging them to look into establishing their presence in Dubai by drawing on the strong growth of the Emirate and its promising opportunities in the energy and water sectors, especially for green technologies.

Al Tayer discussed the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which aims to diversify Dubai’s energy mix so that by 2030, 71% will be generated from gas, 12% from nuclear energy, 12% from clean coal and 5% from solar energy. The strategy also plans to reduce demand for energy by 30%. Al Tayer also outlined DEWA’s strategy and its vision to become a sustainable world-class utility. He also discussed the most important projects in electricity and water, including M-Station, the Sustainable Building in Al Quoz – the largest public sector building in the world with a LEED Platinum certification and the first sustainable public sector building in the UAE – and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will 1,000MW by 2030.

Al Tayer invited the Irish companies to invest in Dubai and benefit from opportunities that the UAE offers the world, especially in water, energy and green technology solutions. He also discussed the global challenges for sustainable resources and emphasised the importance of innovative eco-friendly solutions that help to conserve natural resources and that DEWA has achieved milestones in enhancing the efficiency of natural resources, demand management, and conservation.

He also invited the delegates to take part in the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2014) which will take place on 14-16 April 2013 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Al Tayer also invited them to participate in the World Green Economy Summit, which will take place at the same time as WETEX 2014.

WETEX has established itself as the perfect platform to exchange expertise, technology and best practices related to water conservation, saving natural resources and building a sustainable environment whilst facilitating the creation of new trade opportunities.
