Bahrain’s rights strides hailed; Qatar’s suppression of liberties deplored

Manama, Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) hit back at the media campaign orchestrated by the Qatar’s Aljazeera TV Channel to defame the Kingdom of Bahrain and tarnish its landmark achievements.

In statement today, it highlighted Bahrain’s strides, widely acknowledged by international organizations, which earned the Kingdom honour at different regional and international arenas. It condemned the subversive channel which targets Bahrain, while turning a blind eye to heinous crimes being perpetrated in Qatar, citing torture, suppression of liberties and gross violations of Qataris and non-Qataris’ human rights.

The international organisations have documented the violations of human rights of foreign workers who construct sport stadiums and live in inhuman conditions, subjected to physical and arbitrary arrests without trials. The association reject Doha regime’s blatant interference in Bahrain’s international affairs to fuel strife, sow disunity and spark divisions – which were all doomed to failure thanks to wisdom and statesmanship of His Majesty the King.

It paid tribute to the people of Bahrain, hailing its keenness on hard-won national gains which were achieved thanks to the farsighted vision of His Majesty the King, His Royal Highness the Premier and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. It slammed the social media websites, run by Qatari media, to target Arabian Gulf leaders in an attempt to subvert Gulf and national unity, fuel strife and threaten civil peace and undermined the security and stability of Bahrain and other GCC countries.

Qatar is not even a member in any international press union, as these world organisations do not acknowledge any freedom of opinion and expression. Qatar has to-date not allowed the established of a journalists association that advocates freedom of expression through the media channels. The association commended the brotherly Qatari people, urging the Doha regime to direct resource to serve its citizens and enhance its presence at international organization instead of squandering assets to defame Bahrain and tarnish its achievements.
