Azerbaijan’s athletes shine in Wales

Azerbaijan’s discus thrower Olokhan Musayev has claimed the gold medal in the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea, Wales.

Musayev took the gold in the discus F56, throwing a season’s best 41.63m, just 14 centimeters less than the European record he set at London 2012.

Also, national athlete Allahverdi Allahverdiyev took the second place in F57 javelin final. Russian Alexey Ashapatov threw 34.19m to win the gold, ahead of Allahverdi and Greece’s Angim Ntomgkioni.

Azerbaijani athlete Solmaz Safarova won the bronze medal in Women’s discus F55. The gold medal went to Marianne Buggenhagen from Germany and the silver one was gained by Daniela Todorova from Bulgaria.

Some 550 athletes from 37 countries are taking part at the event that will last till August 23.

Azerbaijan is represented by five sportsmen at the championship.
