Authority Starts Preparation of National Strategy for Promoting Transparency and Integrity

Doha, The Administrative Control and Transparency Authority has started the first phase of the preparation of the national strategy for the promotion of transparency and integrity, as part of its commitment to implementing the terms of reference assigned to it and contribute to the achievement of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

In a press statement issued this evening, the Authority explained that its approach in developing the strategy focuses on cooperation and coordination with all concerned parties in the State, including Qatar national team for implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption in a way that the strategy reflects the visions of all these parties and involve them in development and implementation of strategy, and take advantage of the best international experiences and practices, and in the light of the partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and crime, as a concerned body in the field of transparency and integrity.

Within this context, the Authority held a meeting to discuss what had been achieved regarding the preparations of the strategy and the proposed future steps. The meeting also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Authority and the Office of the United Nations in the preparation of strategy and related fields, where he met with HE Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud met with Dimitri Vlassis, Chief, Corruption and Economic Crime Branch, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The Authority’s statement noted that the strategy aims to achieve higher transparency and integrity indicators in the State to promote systems to maintain the public money, enhance the quality of public services, improve the working and investment environment, for that the strategy will promote all legislative aspects and institutional awareness of transparency and integrity in the state, and will also take into account the importance of strengthening the leading role of the State of Qatar in supporting international efforts concerned with integrity, transparency and the fight against corruption at regional and international levels.

The Authority confirmed that the State of Qatar has made a lot of efforts to promote transparency and integrity which resulted in Qatar’s occupying top position among the Gulf and Arab countries on regional and international indicators on Transparency and Integrity.

The announcement of the start of preparation for the national strategy comes in order to maintain and promote Qatar’s leading position to the ranks of the most transparent countries worldwide ,within the framework of fruitful coordination between all national authorities.

Dimitri Vlassis, Chief, Corruption and Economic Crime Branch, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).has praised Qatar’s support for the international efforts in this area, noting the fruitful cooperation with the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority at all levels, expressing his desire to strengthen the strategic partnership with the Authority . He also stressed his confidence that the Qatari strategy will be a model at the regional and international levels.
