Doha – The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced it would open a 1.6 kilometre stretch of new permanent road with two flyovers and two lanes in each direction along Al Wukair Road, part of its Al Wakra Bypass Project in the south area of Qatar.

Road users will be shifted from the current temporary diversion route on to the new section of road in two phases. Traffic travelling westbound towards Al Wukair will be shifted on 19 May 2017, followed by eastbound traffic towards Al Wakra on 21 May 2017, said Ashghal in a press release today.

To facilitate this opening, the junction connecting Al Sakhama Road to Al Wukair Road will be permanently closed starting from Sunday 21 May. During this time, residents of nearby Ezdan Village numbers 28, 36 and 37, will be required to follow diversion signs and access Al Wukair Road via Al Wukair roundabout.

Ashghal is expediting remaining works on the Al Wakra Bypass Project which is scheduled to open part of its 11 kilometre main carriageway in the coming month.

On an other hand, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ will close Fuwairit Interchange on Al Shamal Road, including the entrances and exits of the interchange, for two months starting from Friday.

According to Ashghal, this temporary closure aims to develop entrances and exits of the interchange and connecting them to the new built service roads located to the west and east of Fuwairit Interchange.

During this period, road users heading from Doha to Ain Snan west of the interchange, will need to use the service road starting at Lejthaya Interchange, while those heading from Doha to Fuwairit, they need to the service road starting at Lejthaya then use the temporary road heading to Fuwairit.

For drivers coming from the north towards Ain Snan or Fuwairit, thy need to continue straight to Lejthaya Interchange then use the service roads on the west and east of Al Shamal Road to reach their destinations.
