Arab Summit: Djibouti President Says Unified Arab Positions is the Only Way to Tackle Current Challenges

President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti emphasized the importance of unified and coherent Arab positions, supported by new, serious, and effective strategies and mechanisms, as the only way to tackle the current challenges.

In his speech at the 32nd regular session of the Arab League Council at the summit level, held in Jeddah, he added that unified Arab positions will make it possible to meet the aspirations of the Arab peoples leading to unity and integration at all levels, and contribute to finding practical solutions to the conflicts that afflict some of Arab countries, for which innocent people pay the price.

On Yemen, President Guelleh said, “We renew our firm position in support of the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership at all levels, and we express our optimism about the atmosphere of peace prevailing in the region given the rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, which revived hopes for reducing tension in Yemen and enhancing regional security and stability,” praising the Saudi efforts to revive the political process and reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution per the agreed terms of reference and under the supervision of the United Nations.

With the regard to the developments in Sudan, the Djiboutian President reiterated his keenness on the stability of Sudan and its territorial integrity, welcoming the local, regional, and international efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire and creating conditions for a comprehensive political dialogue.

President Guelleh reiterated his country’s full support for the efforts being exerted to resolve the Libyan crisis through the Libyan-Libyan settlement On the developments in Somalia, the President of Djibouti praised the atmosphere of openness and political stability that Somalia has begun to initiate, noting the efforts made by the government of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud to improve the economic, social and security conditions. He stressed that Somalia still needs the support and assistance of its brothers in achieving the aspirations of its people for security, stability and development.
