Arab Parliament Speaker calls on donors to speed up pledges for development of Comoro Islands

WAM CAIRO, June 16th, 2013 (WAM)–The Arab Parliament Speaker Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jarwan has urged the donors to speed up their development pledges to Comoro Islands, calling for setting up the Comoro Islands Friends Group.

The remarks were made today at the conference for Support of Development and Investment in the Union of Comoros, held at the General Secretariat for Arab Countries. The conference aimed to follow up the pledges made by the donors to help develop Comoro Islands.

Al Jarwan noted that the parliament should step up technical support to the Arab countries Among others in attendance were Ahmed bin Heli, Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Jabr, Assistant Foreign Minister of Qatar and Samir Hosni, Director of Africa Department at the Arab League.

The participants endorsed the five-year plan 2013- 2017 to develop Comoro Islands.
