WAM CAIRO, July 18th, 2013 (WAM) — The Arab League has welcomed the decision issued by the European Union (EU) with regard to excluding the Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territory including East Jerusalem from the EU-Israeli cooperation and banning European cooperation and financing of any settlement activities or institutions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Arabi considered this to be a positive move which will have positive impacts towards restoration of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in ending the occupation of their territory, and the establishment of an independent state.

The decision is consistent with the UN General Assembly’s decision, issued on November 29 last year upgrading Palestine status to incomplete member state of the United Nations, said Al-Arabi adding that the Arab League General secretariat was looking forward to the full implementation of such decisions by all the countries of the European Union.
