Arab federation honors renowned Kuwaiti woman engineer

MANAMA, March 30 (KUNA) — Federation of Arab Engineers has awarded Dr. Futooh Al-Raqam from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) the “distinguished Arab engineer” prize for her efforts and achievements in engineering over the past year.
In a statement to KUNA, Al-Raqam expressed her happiness for winning this prize on Wednesday — which is the first of its kind granted to women by the federation, reflecting the role of the females in the development.
“Giving me this award for 2015 pushes me to do more for Kuwait, the Arab nation and the whole world,” she said.
Al-Raqam is acting director of the energy efficiency program in energy and building research center at the KISR. She has gained a patent in fuel production from solar energy and has published multiple researches in the efficiency of energy and hydrogen production, utilizing solar energy.
She was honored during the Arab Engineering Conference, held in Bahrain on March 29-30. It was organized by the Bahrain Society of Engineers.
The two-day event, themed “Transportation in the Arab World and the Prospects for its Development and Integration between Arab Countries”, aimed to promote the dissemination of innovative solutions and best practices needed to meet transport needs in the Arab world. It also aimed to enhance role of Arab engineering in planning, implementation and evaluation of infrastructure projects in transportation. (end)
