Tunis, – The Arab League Educational, Culture and Sciences Organization (ALECSO) today mourned the death of its Director-General Dr. Abdallah Hamad Mhareb, who died today at the age of 71.

The Tunis-based organization said in a statement that Dr. Abdullah Hamad Mhareb died Thursday morning after a long journey of giving and serving the issues of the Arab and Islamic nation and advocating the Arabic language.

Mhareb was born in Kuwait in 1946. He received the PhD in literature, and authored many researches and scientific papers.

He served as a Professor in the University of Kuwait. During the period 1978-1982 he served as Cultural Attache in the Kuwaiti Embassy in Cairo.

Dr. Abdallah Hamad Mhareb was elected as Director General of ALECSO in 2012, and was re-elected in February for the same post for the term 2017-2021. (QNA)
