AFC chief in Abu Dhabi to attend opening of FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013

WAM ABU DHABI, 16th October, 2013 (WAM) — Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), arrived in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday night to attend the FIFA U-17 World Cup U.A.E. 2013, which kicks off at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Thursday.

Sheikh Al Khalifa was welcomed on his arrival by Mohammed bin Badawa, Championship Director, who briefed him on the final preparations the U.A.E. has made to host the 15th biennial FIFA tournament which runs until November 8th.

Taking place across six top U.A.E. stadiums – Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, Emirates Stadium, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah Stadium, Fujairah, Sharjah Stadium, Sharjah, Rashid Stadium, Dubai and Khalifa bin Zayed Stadium, Al Ain, this is the largest football event ever held in the Emirates and one of the world’s biggest international tournaments, with 52 matches played by 24 participating nations over three weeks.
