ADMAF, Teatro Real sign letter of cooperation

The Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, ADMAF, has signed a letter of cooperation, LoC, with Teatro Real, Spain’s leading opera house and an important cultural institution in the country.

Upholding long-standing principles of intercultural dialogue, the agreement marks the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the first stone laying of Teatro Real, as well as 20 years since the re-opening of the opera house. The letter was signed by Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of ADMAF and Artistic Director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, and Gregorio Mara?on, President of Teatro Real, in the presence of Hessa Abdullah Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to Spain, Jose Eugenio Salaraich, Former Spanish Ambassador to UAE, and Ainhoa Grandes, President of the MACBA Foundation.

The agreement acknowledges common principles, goals and areas of interest for joint collaboration in performing arts and cultural creativity and will go on to explore opportunities in artistic productions, developmental activities and joint commissions across music and opera.

Commenting on the announcement, Al Otaiba said, “Cultural dialogue is important between countries as it builds an intimate relationship between people. This makes me believe that this LoC between leading organisations such as ADMAF in the UAE and Teatro Real in Spain will enhance the cultural, artistic and musical collaboration between the UAE and the Kingdom of Spain, which supports cultural diplomacy that helps deepen the relations between the two countries. It is evidence of a cultural rapprochement between both counties.”

Alkhamis-Kanoo added, “From Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, a vibrant young country built on a conviction of tolerance and inclusion, to Madrid, a proud cultural capital of Europe, two cities, two organisations who wish to revive this wonderful power of creative cooperation.

“In the Year of Zayed, celebrating a hundred years of the birth of the father of the UAE, the father of unity, tolerance and respect, we are inspired to develop an exciting new era between our two cultures.”

Highlighting the importance of signing the collaborative agreement, Garc?a-Belenguer, General Director of Teatro Real, said, “It will definitely expand the area of influence of the Teatro Real through various cultural and artistic exchange projects to the United Arab Emirates.”

The LoC marks the latest in a series of strategic partnerships initiated by ADMAF, which include a number in Spain, a country with whom the UAE has enjoyed a long and rich history of economic relations, political alliances, as well as a shared cultural heritage.
