Adama Barrow Sworn in as President of Gambia in Senegal

Dakar, Adama Barrow has been sworn in as Gambian president in Senegal’s capital, Dakar, after weeks of political impasse.

The inauguration comes after an escalating political standoff triggered by Yahya Jammeh’s rejection of the December 1 presidential election results.

Barrow had been scheduled to be inaugurated in Gambia, but the ceremony was jeopardized by Jammeh’s refusal to give up power.

Troops from Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana remained in position in Senegal on Thursday in case a military intervention becomes necessary.
