WAM ABU DHABI, 17th December, 2013 (WAM) — HAAD, the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi, is to launch an inaugural mHealth Summit Middle East as part of wider regional strategy to improve health and fight disease through mobile health solutions as Healthcare Information ‘&’ Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Middle East Integrated Health Innovations Conference also reveals winners of the first Innovations Awards programme.
The summit will take place in Abu Dhabi on the 28th and 29th May, 2014.
The announcement was made at the Healthcare Information ‘&’ Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Middle East Integrated Health Innovations Conference, which welcomed over 300 local, regional and international delegates for two days of summit based discussions and business networking at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai.
Also organised by HIMSS, with the support of the United Nations mHealth Alliance and the United States Foundation of the National Institutes of Health, the mHealth Summit has been held in Washington, DC, for the last five years and will now move out of the U.S. capital for the first time to Abu Dhabi.
During the event in Dubai, Ali Mohamed Al Ali, IT Manager at HAAD, commented, “By forming the mHealth Summit Middle East, we will create a best-practice body of knowledge that allows practical application of mobile health to personal health, public health and clinical care.” The summit agenda focuses on taking the power of mobile healthcare applications and solutions and applying them to pressing human needs in health, and the new Abu Dhabi event will bring together international speakers and global healthcare experts for agenda-leading discussions on industry hot topics including mobile health for diabetes management, games for health and wellness, mobile platforms to connect patients with healthcare providers and public health empowerment through mobility.
“In launching the mHealth Summit Middle East, we will create a best practice driven body of knowledge that allows practical application of mobile health to chronic disease, personal health, public health initiatives and clinical care. With the support of HAAD, launching the mHealth Summit Middle East in Abu Dhabi will take mobile health out to the region’s medical professionals and act as a catalyst for implementation across the GCC, as well as attracting international audience interest,” said HIMSS President and CEO, StephenH. Lieber.
The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health was recognised in the Community Care category for its telemedicine consultation services for patients, and Nuance Corporation won the acute care award for a voice dictation system that allow clinicians to navigate and record notes in electronic medical records using an iPhone.
“These innovations, and the opportunity to see them demonstrated onsite, captured the attention of both U.A.E. based and international delegates, and allowed them to see how the same innovative technological solutions can be applied to their own markets to extend the possibilities of care practice to patients everywhere,” said Jeremy Bonfini, Executive Vice President, HIMSS International.
