Abdullah bin Zayed meets AU delegation –

WAM ABU DHABI, 10th September, 2013 (WAM)–H. H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, today received African Union (AU) delegation led by the former President of Botswana, Festus Mogae.

During the meeting which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the two sides discussed the bilateral relations between the UAE and the AU member countries, and the political and economic developments, as well as the achievements of development in Africa.

The two sides also discussed the developments in the region, in Egypt in particular.

H.H Sheikh Abdullah underlined the importance of Egypt and its pivotal regional role as a link between Arab countries and Africa.

For his part, the former President of Botswana, Festus Mogae, made note of the interest of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in cooperation and friendship between the UAE and African countries.

He said the visit of the AU delegation to the UAE comes within the framework of bilateral relations between African countries and the UAE, and affirmed the keenness of the AU on bolstering these ties at all levels.

Mogae expressed his appreciation of the UAE’s stance on Egypt and its close follow-up of the developments there. He noted that the AU supports the current changes in Egypt for the interest of the Egyptian people and their ambitions as Egypt is an important and major part of Africa.

Tuesday’s meeting was attended by African officials from the AU, Botswana and Djibouti, including former Prime Minister of Djibouti, Dileita Mohamed Dileita.
