A New Health Insurance System to be Unveiled Soon

The Advisory (Shura) Council on held its regular weekly meeting under the chairmanship of the Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud with the presence of HE the Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari.

Delivering an address to the Advisory Council, the Minister stressed that the health sector enjoys great support from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and presented a detailed explanation of the current reality of medical services. She also announced a number of projects that include the construction of a number of specialized hospitals, both in the public and private sector.

She revealed that there is a committee composed of the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the State Audit Bureau to examine the tender for the new health insurance, after studying the drawbacks of the previous system.

She also announced that work is being done to make it compulsory for visitors to Qatar to have health insurance. This project is being implemented in co-operation with the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs. It will contribute to reducing the pressure on health services provided by the public sector, particularly the Emergency.
