47 detained for violating Azerbaijan’s state border last month

Baku: In July 2014, 47 people in a total of 33 cases were detained for violating Azerbaijan’s state border, the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan told APA.

24 detainees are Azerbaijani citizens, 11 Uzbekistani, 4 Moldovan, 3 Georgian, 2 Turkish, 1 Russian, 1 Ukrainian, and 1 Iranian.

10 persons in 5 cases and 25 persons in 20 cases in the Caspian Sea were detained brought to administrative responsibility for violating the border. 234 persons wanted by law enforcement bodies were found and handed over to relevant authorities while trying to cross the state border at border checkpoints.

As a series of preventive actions against illicit trafficking in narcotics, attempts of bringing a total of 22kg 166g of narcotics to the country were prevented in 17 cases.

During the month, 7 people traveling from Iran to Azerbaijan were found to be carrying narcotics in their internal organs. Besides that, wild narcotic plants with a total weight of 13t 256.4kg from an area of 8.2ha in the territories of districts along the borders were collected and burned down.

As part of counter smuggling actions, properties overall worth AZN 587,000 in 41 cases, as well as pneumatic pistols, 2 knives, 2.365g mercury, 250,000 fake excise labels for 0.5-litr Russian alcoholic drinks, 17 decimal golden coins, 4 pentad cold coins, 1 golden watch, 405 US currency, 310 pyrotechnic means, 2,434 boxes of cigarette, different drugs and industrial goods were detained.
