Doha, March 12 (QNA) – The 33rd GCC Traffic Week celebrations kicked off today under the theme of ‘Your Life is Trust’.

HE Director General of Public Security Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi opened the accompanied exhibition and activities held at Darb Al Saai, in the presence of a number of officials from the Ministry of the Interior and representatives of the participating institutions and the delegations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

His Excellency toured the stands designated to participants from government agencies, institutions, companies, civil society, youth and charitable organizations, among others.

He was briefed on the efforts of the participants in traffic awareness and their support for the Ministry of the Interior’s various programs and activities.

Director General of General Directorate of Traffic Brigadier Mohamed Saad Al Kharji said that this year Traffic Week is witnessing great developments in terms of participation, events and seminars, pointing to its significant contribution in the field of raising traffic awareness among citizens and residents.

He highlighted the General Directorate of Traffic’s efforts to raise traffic awareness among all road users, especially among the young and new drivers, which led to a decline in the number of deaths and injuries over the years.

The Director General of General Directorate of Traffic praised the participation and cooperation of various institutions and civil society organizations, pointing out that the Directorate aims to increase traffic awareness among road users to reduce deaths and injuries rates.

The celebrations would feature such attractions as a dedicated play zone for children, traffic village, exhibition of vehicles, Police dogs show, first aid campaign by Hamad Medical Cooperation etc.

This year a Souq Waqif pavilion is also planned where traditional goods, along with many restaurants and popular cafes would be featured.

Some of the country’s driving schools will provide practical training and tests for new drivers. There will be special pavilion for ‘One second’ program and traffic safety engineering as well.

Seminars and discussions will be held to enhancing traffic security and reduce road accidents. (QNA)
