YARAT, BEHANCE to present Portfolio Review Day

By: Nigar Orujova

YARAT Contemporary Art Space has announced the return of Portfolio Review Day, an event dedicated to discovering and introducing emerging Azerbaijani talents to wider audiences.

The occasion is a result of collaboration between YARAT and Behance that was made possible due to shared dedication to supporting and encouraging young creative minds and enabling them to reach their full artistic potential.

Behance is a network of sites and services specialising in self-promotion, including consulting and online portfolios. It offers creative individuals a platform to update their work in one place and to broadcast it widely and effectively on an international scale.

The network partners with volunteer organisations from all around the globe to present Portfolio Review Week twice each year.

Since its launch in 2012, nearly 1,000 events in eighty countries have taken place and have brought together some of the most inspiring creative professionals. This event gives creative people a valuable opportunity to meet new, like-minded people.

YARAT Contemporary Art Space supports these initiatives and it is not the first time they are partnering with Behance.

This year Portfolio Review Day will present the works of eleven local artists – Dima Turcan, Shabnam Shukurova, Elnur Babayev, Eltaj Zeynalov, Shargiyya Rahmanova, Shamil Askerov, Hadi Misrihanova, Chalk Studio, Vugar Naib, Ayhan Khalilov and Butunay Hagverdiyev with an opportunity to discuss their current artistic endeavours.

By the end of the day, a jury comprised of artist and designer Fakhriyya Mammadova, photographer Sanan Aleskerov and artist and film-maker Teymur Daimi will reveal three winning portfolios.

The free of charge event is open to all in Yarat Contemporary Art Center (near the National Flag Square) at 7.00 p.m. on May 15.

Founded in 2011 by Aida Mahmudova, YARAT is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing contemporary art in Azerbaijan and creating a platform for Azerbaijani art, both nationally and internationally.

The organization facilitates dialogue and exchange between local and international artistic networks, including foundations, galleries, and museums.
