Violinist Itzhak Perlman captivates Izmir concertgoers

World-renowned violinist-conductor Itzhak Perlman enthralled an izmir audience over the weekend, performing a much anticipated concert as part of this yearand’s 29th izmir International Festival.
Perlmanand’s Saturday night appearance at izmirand’s Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center was part of his third visit to Turkey in three years, which also included a concert at Istanbuland’s Zorlu Center PSM on May 28. He previously played two sold-out concerts in Istanbul in 2013 and 2014.
The Israeli-American Perlman, accompanied by pianist Rohan De Silva, played sonatas for violin and piano by Leclair, Brahms, Beethoven and Ravel during his izmir concert. For the encore, he played seven pieces from Corelli, Chopin, Albeniz, Brahms and John Williams, the Cihan news agency reported.
Billed as one of the finest classical musicians of the 20th and early 21st centuries, the multiple Grammy-winning Perlman plays a historic Soil Stradivarius made in 1714 during the golden period of Antonio Stradivari.
The izmir Festival opened on May 26 with a concert by Italyand’s Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra under the baton of maestro Riccardo Muti, and continues until July 2 with 11 classical music and ballet performances.
