US Special Envoy for International Energy Affairs: “TANAP should be a project which everyone will make effort for its completion” – “This is the best for both Turkey and Europe”

Baku: “If the countries depend on one country for energy or depends on one country too much, this is not good. Especially, if energy supply of that country is used as a political means against it”, US Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs Amos Hochstein told Hürriyet.

According to him, in order to prevent this, it’s needed to provide energy supply and diversify the routes: “TANAP is a project which implements these two factors. Natural gas comes with a new supplier and a new route. TANAP is a good model for diversification of energy sources”.

Hochstein noted that this pipeline will allow to deliver Azerbaijani gas to European market for the first time: “The route is also significant. The project passes through Turkey, but not Ukraine and Russia. When it is delivered to Italy, it will allow us to construct a new pipeline from Greece to Bulgaria. From Bulgaria, the pipeline can be connected to Serbia, Romania and Hungary. Therefore, this project will be convenient for us”.

“TANAP is a project that Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia take responsibility for it. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources recalled this responsibility at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project”, he added.

“Therefore, TANAP should be a project drawing attention and which everyone will make effort for its completion. This is the best for both Turkey and Europe”, Hochstein said.
