UN High Commissioner: ‘The fact of downed Malaysian airliner must be assessed as a war crime’

Baku: A Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine where there are ongoing fights between the government forces and militants.

This incident can be assessed as a war crime.

The statement came from UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay, APA reports quoting ITAR-TASS.

Navanethem Pillay said the plane belonging to Malaysian Airlines was shot down on July 17, immediately after completing the report on Ukrainian crisis. He added that the report covers the period from June 8 to July 15.

UN commissioner noted that they need to conduct a thorough investigation and take international measures regarding the incident.
