Turkish people flock to Eyup Sultan to celebrate Leylet-ul-Bera’at

ISTANBUL: Muslims throughout Turkey celebrated Berat Kandili on Monday, considered to be a night when Muslims are graced with divine mercy and blessings. The Night of Forgiveness (Berat Kandili/Leylet-ul-Bera’at), observed on the night between the 14th and 15th days of Sha’ban — the eighth month of the Hijra calendar — was commemorated with prayers tonight by Muslims around Turkey.

In Istanbul, people flocked to Eyup Sultan Mosque to spend the night. The mosque and yard were full of people who also came from other cities. People recited Quant, performed prayer and prayed to attain Allah’s forgiveness. Mosque officials offered people ayran and desserts due to the special night.
