Turkish fighter jets shoot down Syrian aircraft

HATAY: Turkey on Saturday shot down a Syrian aircraft over violation of Turkish airspace near Syrian border.

Turkish fighter jets fired at the Syrian aircraft which downed on the territory of Syria near Dursunlu and Emek villages of southern Hatay province of Turkey.

The military sources said the Turkish military was investigating the type of the Syrian aircraft.

In 2013, Turkish warplanes shot down a Syrian helicopter at the border region between the two countries after the helicopter allegedly violated Turkish airspace.

In June 2012, the Syrian air defenses shot down a Turkish fighter jet that reportedly penetrated the Syrian territorial water.

Turkey has a 900 km long border with neighboring country of Syria.
