Turkey’s first museum of play to open in AtaIehir

Istanbul will be home to the countryand’s first museum of play when the Danduitepe Museum and Park is inaugurated this week in the Ataiehir district.
The museum, which will open on Tuesday inside the 50,000-square-meter Mimar Sinan Park in Ataiehir, was designed by poet Sunay Akin, who is also the founder and owner of the Istanbul Toy Museum in the GandOztepe neighborhood.
The Danduitepe museum, whose name means and”dream hill,and” is housed in two one-storey buildings in the park and it includes hundreds of exhibits brought together from more than 10 countries around the world, including prototypes of numerous toys. They include a 150-year-old chess set, toys from the Victorian era, an old house-building game from a century ago, and samples of the worldand’s first space games, according to a press release from the museum on Monday.
The second building that houses the museum will serve as an event venue, which, along with the park, will be hosting international celebrations such as an African childrenand’s games week, and a Japanese childrenand’s games week.
The museumand’s designer, Akin, says Danduitepe is a rare example not only in Turkey but around the world, adding that he expects the museum and park complex to appeal to not only children and their parents, but also cultural historians and popular culture experts.

The museum and park, which will also hold festivals under special themes year-round, is expected to draw 500,000 children annually.
