Turkey to set new monthly minimum wage at TL 949

ANKARA: The new net minimum wage is set to increase to TL 949 a month for workers for the first six months of 2015, and will rise to TL 1,000 (USD 432) in the second half of the year, Minister of Labor and Social Security Faruk Celik announced on Tuesday.

After a meeting held withthe Minimum Wage Determination Commission in Ankara on Tuesday, Celik stated that they agreed on a 6-percent raise in the minimum wage for workers.

During the meeting, a group of Freedom and Development Party (HKP) members held a protest in front of theMinistry of Labor and Social Security’s building, criticizing the low minimum wage in Turkey. The HKP members said that the minimum wage is associated with poverty, hunger and misery in Turkey.
