Town mayor from ruling party shot in head while at office

A townand’s mayor who was elected on the ticket of the ruling Justice of Development Party (AK Party) was shot in the head by a municipal employee while he was in his office on Wednesday, according to the Cihan news agency.
Canduneyt Yildiz, who serves as the mayor of the Gandursandu district in the province of Bursa, along with his bodyguard, were severely injured in the armed attack, which took place at around 3 p.m. The assailant, F.B., fled the scene. According to the Dogan news agency, 47-year-old F.B., who was previously serving as specialized sergeant, attacked the mayor, whom he accused of not promoting him.
Yildiz and his bodyguard Yener Simsek were taken to a state hospital in Bursa for treatment.
Yildiz, who started politics with the AK Party in 2007, was elected mayor in the March 30, 2014 local elections.
