Turkey stuns US in World GP, Thailand subdues SerbiaAfter a day on which the losing teams in the FIVB World Grand Prix could only manage three sets, things were a lot tighter on Saturday with a couple of upsets in Group 1 Turkey overcame the former champion, the United States, 3-2 in Ankara, and Thailand defeated last year’s bronze medalist Serbia, again in five sets, according to a report on the FIVB website. Elsewhere in Group 1, Kim Yeon-Koung powered Korea to third place in the standings with another dominant performance, collecting 25 points and five aces — for the second day in a row — in the 3-1 victory over Germany.

A day after beating China, Brazil turned on the power once again to defeat hosts Italy 3-0. In other games, Russia defeated Japan 3-1 and China rolled past the Dominican Republic 3-0.

In Group 2, the Netherlands remained undefeated but had to fight hard to overcome local rivals Belgium 3-2, while Puerto Rico picked up a famous victory as they overcame Poland in four sets and moved up to second in the standings.
